The Real Numbers
Given all of the misinformation floating around the air waves, I felt it appropriate to show the truth to anyone interested in seeing the real numbers.
The bingo hall is audited every month through the Mississippi Gaming Commission's Monthly Report process and all numbers must balance with the monthly bank statement. The charity must undergo a Full Financial Audit every year to account for all funds coming into and out of the Charity as well as all of the money coming in and going out of the Bingo hall. We have passed every Financial Audit we have had with only one case of theft and that is currently being adjudicated.
The Clarion Ledger reported that of $4.5 million only $178,000 went to charity. Where is the rest of the money?
- 72% of all the bingo hall's revenues are paid out in winnings. This is money that goes out the door the very night it is taken in($3,240,000). We never really ever see this money other than to touch it.
- It costs about $800,000 a year to run the bingo hall (this leaves approximately $460,000). This remainder is donated to the charity from which the charity pays for charitable programs, salaries, taxes, and all of the other expenses associated with running a business.
All Numbers reflect the time frame from August 2006 to October 2009 unless otherwise noted. (all numbers have been rounded)
These numbers have been taken directly from monthly gaming reports submitted to the Mississippi Gaming Commission
Total Revenues to the Bingo Hall: $14,450,000.00
Total Payout in Winnings from the Bingo Hall: $10,360,000.00
Total Expenses for Bingo Hall (rent, electricity, salaries, taxes, etc): $2,482,000.00
Approximate gaming fees paid to the Mississippi Gaming Commission: $95,000
Total Donations to Charity from the Charity's inception. (The Fine Arts Institute of Mississippi from Boxcar Bingo): $1,500,000.00
Stats on the Charity for 2009 – Total Donations this year $130,000 (the term donations here means the money the charity has expended directly to charity recipients, but not the total amount spent on programs).
Average monthly revenues to FAIM (this shows growth during a very poor economy);
07- $37,000 per month
08 - $36,000 per month
09 - $63,000 per month
